February 2025: Clearing storm damage at Greenwood Crossing on the Tramway Path
Thanks to a large group of our Conservation Volunteers, a windblown beech tree has been cleared to restore access for walkers on the Tramway Path.
January 2025: Storm Eowyn Damage Warnings
WARNING: CNOCNICHOLL PATH CLOSED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE
Fallen trees from Storm Eowyn have blocked the Cnocnicholl Trail (Mount Stuart to Moor Road) and other paths – these will take time for foresters to clear.
WARNING: GARRISON PATH CLOSED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE
Storm Eowyn has blocked the Garrison Road path above Port Bannatyne – Several large trees have fallen across the path and may take some time to clear.
January 2025: Suidhe Wood Path extended
Thanks to the ‘Co-op Community Fund’ grant we have been able to complete the hard surface path through the Suidhe Wood from Kilchattan Bay to the Plan Road. This path is very popular with Bute residents and visitors. It also forms part of the route of Bute’s ‘West Island Way’. Pictured we see the Ambrisbeg Quarry team pressing on with the work.
January 2025: Tackling fallen trees and worn boardwalk bridges
The winter gales have caused some damage to the Cnocnicholl Trail. Plus time has taken its toll on some of the wire netting. Twelve volunteers were kept busy all morning clearing damage, renewing bridges and re-netting a boardwalk.
January 2025: Fallen tree on West Island Way at Stravanan Glen
The January gales have caused some damage to our path network, Pictured is the removal of a fallen tree over the West Island Way route in the glen between the Moor Road and the Stravanan Bay section.
September 2024: Improved signage at Bute Golf Club / Stravannan Bay
An additional ‘Warning’ sign, extra waymarkers and new steps down to the beach path, should stop West Island Way walkers from straying onto the golf course ‘greens’ and remind them to beware of flying golf balls.
