Heritage Projects

Since the formation of the Bute Conservation Trust in 1990, the volunteer Trustees and Members have been involved in many projects on Bute, including: the rebuilding of Victoria Street; the Bute Tourism Management Plan; erection of new bird hides; and the creation of Bute’s ‘West Island Way’ to become one of Scotland’s long-distance walking trails.

Discover Bute Landscape Partnership Scheme

In 2004 the Bute Conservation Trust initiated the ‘Discover Bute Landscape Partnership Scheme’ as part of the Trust’s aim of conserving the natural, built and social heritage of Bute. This successful project was completed in July 2012, and the Trust will endeavour to continue its legacy, with a focus on care and maintenance of paths, hedgerows, gates and signage, bird hides, drystone walling, archaeological sites and cycle parks.
